Osprey Point at Kiawah Island:

A Devilish Duo: Par Three Holes #3 and #11.

Kiawah Island Resort has become famous in large part because of the Ocean Course hosting the 1991 Ryder Cup and most recently the 2012 PGA Championship. However there are 4 other notable designs all part of this vast seaside resort near Charleston. Osprey Point, Tom Fazio's contribution to this wonderful golf collection, features his trademark generous fairways, but surrounds them with massive lakes and wetlands. Player friendly if the correct tees are played, Osprey Point has some teeth to go along with the charm and beauty of its layout.

Description: The short holes on most golf courses tend to be in the high teens on the handicap index. This duo at Osprey Point with a cumulative index of 17 are pure beasts. Both playing entirely over water these two are great examples of heroic holes. Hole 3 plays over wetlands to a green that has a large rise in the middle and guarded by a fronting trench bunker. The green slopes away at the back so only the most perfectly struck shot will hold and give you a chance at par. The 11th has an enormous  green site well defended by a lake and a beach bunker on the left. Little room for error with trees and mounding front and right, create a most intimidating tee shot. Pick your club, focus and hope you find the large putting surface. A back left pin is vicious, forcing a high draw flirting a watery grave.
