May River Golf Club:

Naturally Nicklaus.

May River, the highly acclaimed Jack Nicklaus design that is part of the Inn at Palmetto Bluff allows guest play for those staying at the world class resort facility. The resort and community are built on 20000 acres with a village, golf and tennis facilities, as well as a stunning waterfront. The layout accentuates what Mother Nature provided as a canvas and the grand vision of the development to conserve and preserve this piece of coastal paradise. Nicklaus used the gentle rolling landscape along with signature live oaks and southern pines to craft a course that is beautiful and challenging. It is no wonder that May River is mentioned in conversation with many of the best layouts in the state.

Featured Holes Description:

Nicklaus used the natural beauty of the coastline and meandered fairways and green sites through the sentinel live oaks and pines. These make for some of the most creative and challenging holes at May River. Hole 6, a mid-length Par 3, is deceptive. The green is across a tidal inlet hidden from view at the tee. Framed by massive pines the hole requires a variety of shots based on the pin position of the day. Hole 10 a lengthy Par 5, uses a century old pine as a guide and obstacle. The fairway is interrupted about 150 yards out by wetlands. The tree presents you with a variety of shots to avoid it and find the raised green surrounded by pot bunkers. The final hole is a beast of a Par 5 with water left and then again right at the green. Two massive oaks one guarding the landing area right and the other, the inspiration for the course logo, short and left of the green. Par can even be made from under its sprawling canopy… I know…..
